ES Art

Art in education is meant to help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. We learn how to make good choices in the art-making process by understanding the elements of art (line, color, shape, space, form, value and texture) and principles of design (emphasis, pattern, rhythm, movement, contrast, balance and unity). Students can use these elements and principles to help them achieve their ideas visually with ongoing decisions and personal reflection throughout the process. We examine our culture through art and learn to respect and appreciate the achievements of other cultures. We look to master artists and various cultures throughout the ages to see how other people have solved their own visual problems in ways meaningful to them.
