The New Glarus School District 15th Annual Child Development Days and 4-Year Old Kindergarten screening will be held this year on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the New Glarus Elementary School, 1420 2nd St., New Glarus, WI. Please call 527-2410 ext. 1000 to set up an appointment for your child if they are between the ages of 6 months and 4 years.
On February 11, 2012 the Music Booster's will be serving from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the New Glarus High School Commons. Dinner includes: Spaghetti, Salad, Garlic Bread, Drink, and of course... Dessert! Music provided from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Save the Date! We hope your family will come and enjoy the evening. A great way to celebrate Valentine's... a little spaghetti and song with your sweeties!
The New Glarus High School Mock Trial team will compete on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in its eighth tournament. The students are responsible for mastering a manual with over 80 pages of rules and procedures, and 25 pages of witness statements, exhibits and legal standards before they compete against teams from across southern Wisconsin. They assume roles as either lawyers presenting the case and making arguments, or as witnesses who must make a convincing presentation of their facts. The witnesses are then cross examined by student attorneys from other teams before the panel of three judges decides on points which side has “won” that particular trial.
The New Glarus “Community Asset” and “Student Asset” Awards are given to outstanding volunteers in our community, without whom none of our wonderful events could take place. If you know a person, organization or business giving to our community, young or old, new to New Glarus, or a “lifer”, you will want to nominate this person or group for a Community Asset or Student Asset Award. Student Asset Awards will be presented during an assembly at New Glarus High School Gymnasium, on February 22, 2012 at 2:30pm.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind the community that school closings and/or delayed openings will be a potential for the next three to four months. Our district staff understands that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a major effect on families. We also understand that our students are better served both academically and socially, by being in school. However, our top priority is the safety of our students.
The New Glarus High School Science Club will be conducting a rather unique fundraiser over the upcoming month. What is the fundraiser? The Science Club will be placing pink flamingos all around town in an effort to raise money. The students will be placing and moving the flamingos during the evenings.
