You are invited to become a FOSTER GRANDPARENT at New Glarus Elementary. Foster Grandparents join more than a half-million members of the national Senior Corps which taps the experience, skills, and the talents of local adults age 60 and older to meet local needs.
Foster Grandparent volunteers provide support and assistance with reading, basic math skills, or other areas where students may be challenged to keep once with their peers. Not only do the students benefit, so do the adults. Not only do the children receive additional 1-on-1 or assistance in small groups which increase their skill levels, the volunteers themselves realize proven health benefits through social interaction, ongoing engagement, opportunities to contribute, and a sense of accomplishment.
Other benefits for qualified participants can include a tax-free hourly stipend, paid holidays, and earned paid time off, assistance with transportation costs to official FGP activities, meal allowance, and many other things.
To learn more about the guidelines for participating in the Foster Grandparent Program, contact program coordinator Cindy Gher-Deckert at 608-935-2326 or at the New Glarus Elementary School Jerilyn George 608-527-2810 ext. 1036.
