The PTO coordinates several events throughout the year, in which, volunteers are needed. Below is a listing of the various opportunities available.

GREEN & GOLD EXPERIENCE:  This fundraiser is most important because it helps to fund many of our activities throughout the year. The responsibilities include promoting the fundraiser, catalog distribution, orders organization, collecting and tracking money, sorting and delivery/ pick-up of items.  Time commitment:  After school/evenings event once a year. 

SCHOOL DIRECTORY: Volunteers will work to collect and compile directory information from New Glarus families and staff, solicit advertisements, collect advertising money, distribute directory and send thank-you letters to businesses. Computer expertise is required for this position; this includes use of desktop publishing software and Excel spreadsheets. Graphic Design and advertising sales. This can all be done from home under your own schedule

SCIENCE FAIR: Coordinate, publicize and plan Science Fair that takes place in the spring.  Distribute and collect registration materials. Coordinate with School cafeteria to sell meals. Help set up and clean up. Time Commitment: Once a year, four to six hours.

COOKIE DOUGH:  Distribute order catalogue to students, collect money, delivery is done at school. Intense fundraiser for a few weeks, but it’s quickly over.

NEWSLETTER:  Copy and distribute newsletter to students and staff. Time commitment: one hour once a month. 

TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION: Volunteers make arrangements for and/or provide items for breakfasts and lunches for the staff, and plan many other ways to let the school staff know how much we value them and the time they spend teaching and working with our children. Time commitment: flexible.

GIFT CARDS PROGRAM: Volunteers will promote the event, distribute and collect order forms. Collect money.  Receive and distribute gift cards.  Time commitment: twice a year (December and May) two hours each time.

BUCKY BOOK:  promotion and distribution of order forms. Collect money. Books delivery. Time commitment:   Once a year event.

FAMILY EVENT:  Planning and promoting the event. Coordination with school staff for booths and informational materials.  Coordinate and organize feature presentation.  Sell and distribution of tickets. Collect money. Coordinate meals for the event with cafeteria. Time commitment: Intense fundraiser for a few weeks, but it’s quickly over.

BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION, CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS, OUR FAMILY LABELS & MILK CAPS: This is a great way to help the PTO and work at home. Collect Box Tops from designated locations. Trim and count Box Tops and send to appropriate company for reimbursement. Plan and organize fun collection activities and contests for students. Time commitment: This can all be done from home under your own schedule

VOLUNTEERS ON CALL: Volunteers are needed at times throughout the year to help with clerical duties, like stapling and running copies or helping with fund-raisers. Help a single time or every time – it’s up to you! As a "General Volunteer", you may be called on when the need arises. 

WEB-SITE: Develop a format for providing communication and information to the community regarding PTO programs, events and activities via the PTO page of the New Glarus School web-site will also coordinate with publicity volunteer to deliver consistent information. Time commitment: This can all be done from home under your own schedule.

PUBLICITY: Assist PTO events by preparing press releases for the community, preparing and distributing posters and assisting with general PTO publicity efforts. Work with the School staff to advertise events in the monthly news letter. Time commitment: This can all be done from home under your own schedule.

MARKET DAY:  Promote the event, catalog distribution and collection of money. Volunteers would help unload trucks and work the sale. Sales happen once a month and volunteers are needed anytime between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 pm. You can volunteer only one day or as many as you want.

BULLETIN BOARD: A volunteer will decorate the PTO bulletin board with current events, PTO news, announcements, notices, etc. Use your artistic abilities and showcase your talents!  Time commitment: This can all be done from home under your own schedule.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: Solicit parent volunteers and match them with needs of PTO volunteer opportunities and needs as expressed by school staff and administration.  Solicit parent volunteers for room parent positions.  Maintain volunteer database, distribute names to event coordinators. Time commitment: This can all be done from home under your own schedule.

SPIRITWEAR COORDINATOR: If you have these interests, you may like this job: school spirit, fundraising, team-building, creative challenges. The goal for the Spirit Wear Fundraising volunteers is to see our School name, logo and school colors all over our community! Duties include manage orders, arrange to have these items sold at various school functions, working with school groups; managing inventory; and new creative opportunities your will define! Time commitment: some spring and summer preparation for fall “busy season”; weekly at beginning of school year; then occasional activity

SPRING BASKET RAFFLE: Help create theme basket and solicit donations. Distribute promotional materials. Sell tickets, collect money and deliver baskets to winners. Time commitment:  Intense fundraiser for a few weeks, but it’s quickly over.


PRESIDENT or CO-PRESIDENT: Coordinate all activities for the PTO, in coordination with school administration.  Preside over monthly meetings, participate in all budget meetings, oversee activities of committee chairs, fund disbursements and curriculum grants, prepare agenda for and attend PTO meetings and report on New Glarus PTO activities.

VICE PRESIDENT: Act as aide to the president; and shall perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability of that officer to serve.

SECRETARY: Maintain official records for the PTO.  Take minutes of all PTO meetings and distribute written copies at subsequent meetings. Send electronic file to PTO webmaster. Receive and report mail addressed to PTO, and correspond as needed on behalf of PTO. 


Implementation of the items below will depend upon the number of volunteers

NEW GLARUS SCHOOL RUN/WALK: Late in the Spring New Glarus Students will challenge the community to get fit with them. It is a community fitness day with post race prizes, live entertainment, and refreshments to celebrate the community effort. Volunteers will promote the event. Contact sponsors, vendors, city authorities & first aid organizations for the event.

GREEN TEAM: PTO would like to start a committee for those interested in developing recycling program and implementing other environmentally-friendly initiatives for New Glarus Community.

GRANTS:  There are several money grants available for programs like we have at our school. A volunteer would help us apply for these grants.

FALL BAZAAR: Volunteers will promote the event. Contact local artists, merchants and direct sales consultants for participation. Set up and clean up the day of the event.
